Katherine Frances Chase was killed in a fire on the 11500 block of Shell Flower Lane in Columbia around 7:30 p.m. March 20, Daily Voice reported. She was 15.

A sophomore at Wilde Lake High School, Katie loved manifesting her creativity through various outlets — among her favorites were playing in marching band and experimenting with clothing modifications, her obituary says.

She was also an active member of the school’s GSA and was passionate about outdoor adventures that came through Girl Scouts, camping and kayak trips.

Katie was known for her culinary prowess, particularly when it came to baking. She loved sharing her bread and cookie creations with her family and had aspirations to become a chef, her obituary says.

Katie was incredibly fascinated with Japanese culture and “fearlessly” sampled dishes like beef tongue and Japanese Takoyaki during her trip to Japan with her family.

Above all, Katie leaves an impactful legacy of love, expression, compassion, and creativity to all who knew her.

"She touched the lives of many with her bright spirit and contagious enthusiasm," reads her memorial.

Katie is predeceased by her father, John Chase. She is survived by her adoring mother, Sue Ann Chase; cherished sister, Nicole Chase; maternal grandparents Raymond and Sharon Laramie; maternal aunts and uncle: Bill Laramie, Teresa Pope (Jesse), Joanne Ruder (Branden), and Debbye Todd (Chris), and many more. Her beloved cat companion, Auggie, perished alongside her as well, her obituary says.

Meanwhile, nearly $30,000 had been raised on two separate GoFundMe campaigns launched to support the family as they grieve. Katie’s passing comes just 2.5 years after her father’s, one of the campaigns says.

A private memorial was being held for Katie’s family with a public celebration of life to be announced at a later date.

Donations were also being accepted in Katie’s honor to the Wilde Lake High School marching band.

“Please consider supporting Sue and Nicole to help them navigate through this challenging period of grief and transition,” reads a campaign launched by loved ones.

“With time, patience, and support, we hope they can gradually find ways to honor the memory of Katie and John while also moving forward with their lives.”
